One thing is sure, you to need to build your vocabulary, to do so, there is a wide range od websites you can use. Some are free, some will require a password. (Due to the nature of this wiki, I can't share the passwords with you right here)
. At the moment we are preparing our first piece of controlled assessment so we have spent a lot of time looking at the Writing Criteria.
Make sure you know: - The grade you are currently working at - Your target grade - Once you know both of these, you need to know how you will achieve your target grade, and in your language lesson, this mean knowing what structures, tenses you will need to include.
How can you get an A in writing? Simple! To achieve an A you need to be able to write for different purposes and contexts about real or imaginary subjects. You can express and explain ideas and points of view. You use a variety of vocabulary, structures and verb tenses. Your spelling and grammar are generally accurate. The message is clear but there may be some errors, especially when you write more complex sentences.
Controlled Assessment
Winter term: We have been working really hard to prepare for your first piece of controlled assessment. You will need to write 200/300 words if your target grade is A*-C! No pressure! Make sure you include at least 2 tenses and pronouns (go on 3 to be absolutely sure!), lots of connectives (7 different ones), plenty of interesting time sequences (again the magic number 7 springs to mind), lots of opinions and reasons without forgetting those magic phrases which make the examiner tick!! (Reflexive verbs, range of structures, varied vocabulary, using a range of pronouns, using Y correctly....)
You will find below a link to your first piece of written controlled assessment (CA) You are entitled 6 hours of preparation (starting Wednesday 24th November 2010!!)
SummerTerm: It is now the time to start preparing the first Speaking Controlled Assessment Task! You will need to speak between 4-6 minutes and I will record you. We are working on the theme of Leisure and The Media. You will find below the core vocab list you are expected to know.
MAke sure you can answer all my questions in full (Answers with 2 clauses, an opinion and a reason at the very least) and use the correct tense in your answer too! You will also be asked an unpredictable question, linked to the theme of Hobbies. Good luck and make sure you practice lots at home!
